Sport Chek Chase The Gear
We built a custom digital hub to capture and queue up iPhone video that was streamed via Facebook Live API to the Sport Chex Facebook page.
The Challenge
You’ve heard the expression, “Herding cats”? When TBWA asked for a live action videogame that could be streamed on Facebook Live, it went something like that. Conceived for Sport Chek, the event posed a few logistical challenges.
For one, the entire production would be on the move – with runners shooting footage on-the-fly. Next, the level of polish needed to be high – with a live feed resembling a major sporting event. To top it off, the location had no fixed Internet lines and shoddy cell reception. Now what?
Our Solution
We put our thinking caps on. Pixelpusher designed a system whereby the runners’ iPhones sent a signal to a custom-built digital hub that captured and queued up live video. Feeds were then converted to RTMP format for live streaming through the Facebook Live API to the Sport Chek Facebook page. The end result was an exciting broadcast encouraging viewers to run down to High Park, tag an Olympian and win some fresh new sporting gear – which they did, in droves.
